Ruth Siegel, was a graduate of Brooklyn College and began work for the U.S. government in Washington D.C. before World War II broke out in Europe. With a brother called to duty, she returned to Brooklyn to help care for her widowed mother and secured a job at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She married the love of her life, Henry Siegel in l945 and began her brief career as an elementary school teacher in the New York Public School system. Her true calling, as was the case with many women of her era, was raising her children as a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. Her defining traits were her strong sense of justice, and a set of values reflective of the ancient teachings and traditions of her heritage; her brilliant mind with its sharp memory and her generous heart. Ruth had an enormous capacity for love which she extended to those in need as well as to her beloved family and friends. The daughter of David and Yetta Rosenzweig, brother of Herbert and Joseph, she leaves behind her loving husband Henry of 72 years, her adoring children: sons David and Joseph with their respective wives Barbara Siegel and Joanna Baker; her daughter Judith Siegel Flatt and her husband David; her grandchildren Jeffrey Siegel and his wife Veronica Cidre; Carolyn Siegel and her husband Lucas Scottini; Laura Siegel and Miles Flatt. She felt especially blessed with her cherished great grandson, Matías Siegel, the son of Jeffrey and Veronica. Ruth is also survived by her niece Cynthia Siegel, her nephew David Siegel, his wife Luci DeHaan, their son Jake and a loving sister-in-law, Ina Figowy, Ruth's brother Herbert's wife.
