Michael Asher Schlanger posted a condolence

From Grade 3 through high school graduation in Mount Vernon, NY, I was a good friend and frequent teammate of Eddie Greenbaum (later to you all, "Green")--particularly in basketball, wrestling and football. Throughout our childhood, lots of kids thought of Eddie as "tough," a "tough guy," and synonyms therefor. After all, Eddie was the best athlete in the school (and, ultimately, one of the best in the State), tall (for his age), strong, solid as a rock, and ran his mouth, albeit in a funny, irreverent, good-natured way. But when it mattered (and it mattered a lot to him), Eddie was kind, thoughtful, gracious, and very, very respectful of girls (at an age when others were not). A month before Eddie died, I spent an entire afternoon with him at his place (and with his beloved Bella). Although he knew he did not have long to live, Eddie had all the positive energy, enthusiasm and humor of his teenage days.
Sometime after Eddie died, I know I wrote an obituary on some site, but my writing does not appear on this one. Within the next week or so, I will attempt to replicate that obituary for this site, with photos. But for now, if any of you would like to share memories with me, I would be delighted to do so. My name is Michael Schlanger. My e-mail address is michael@schlanger-consulting.com.

I just learned of Eddie’s death yesterday. What a light that is now gone. We had fallen out of touch the last few years, as can happen. But I met Eddie when a became an assistant commercial agent 30 years ago, and we became friends. Always great for a laugh, and an honest opinion. I assume you’re up there having fun and enjoying the ladies, Eddie!

Miss my friend. A gentle heart in a rough exterior. Living at his long time building I had the pleasure and relished in his stories and his crazy times, and some good advice from time to time. We shared a sign both Gemini’s.
I kept texting and calling and then I checked in and you had been gone a week. Sorry I didn’t get to say goodbye!
Love and condolences to your family.

Eddie.."Pops"...as I called you..and ""Jer"" as you called me... I can't believe you are gone....My condolences to all of your friends and family as well.
Today is July 4th 2020...Listening to the fireworks outside and hearing the people celebrate...Now I'm in great sadness...I just found out a few moments ago...But I celebrate now the wonderful life you lived and kind person you were
...A friend recently I directed your website to hear your demos...and he said he was not working. So today I went for myself to see why and sure enough it was closed. Then looking to find another weblink w/ some of your past great demos I sadly saw your obit...and sat at my computer screen staring at it for several hours in disbelief...Luckily I have a massive collection of your audio demos from yrs past...and the compilations we made
I'm extremely grateful to have known you for the last 20+ yrs...and the work we did together...Helping you edit various pieces and you helping / teaching me...being a great friend, mentor..father like figure...a wise (but witty) owl :)
The last we spoke I remember was in mid September you sent me an early b-day email...and then we spoke by phone a week or so after that...I remember you said you had a bunch of medical stuff to do and would be outta commission for a while..so I wished you well and wished you a good holiday season...It seems like you mentioned to call / email you after the 1st of the year...I believe I did...but no response...then I got a nasty flu in January...then this Covid-19 / Corona mess...I know I emailed you during this Covid and Riots mess to check up on ya...just now saw where the email was returned..hidden in all the spam and junk mail.
Eddie, I remember a conversation we'd been having for the last several (15+) years where you said that after all of these years you would be willing to go on TV...like the Tonight Show ect... and officially reveal your identity...I recall telling you many times how much your voice meant to so many people...For decades you were America's Voice...you still are for that matter...and always will be...I'm sorry that wish...and my wish as of millions of others wanting to know the all important question ?? ""Who is that famous voice over guy ? "" Although we made numerous attempts your schedule and health just couldn't make it possible...We did try though....But it can still happen...and yrs ago when you asked me to work on your behalf as your publicist...I will continue this honor...and I am so happy my brother become your website mgr...and my mom loved talking to you also...Yes you were a part of our family...I remember even inviting you to come here for some various holidays...but timing and your health sadly did not allow.
You've been my serious #1 Professional & Personal Inspiration...Role Model... Motivator... Best Friend... Admiration... Positive Influence...I just cannot say enough great words for / about you.
Most of our conversations ...especially the lengthy ones were via e-mail...many times you did critique and correct my grammar...and I thank you for that.
I sent you one of my books ...well some sample portion chapters and you were amazed...even said you would help publish them....Now I'm going to work even harder to finish these works...
When my dad passed I remember you noticed some differences in his obituary...and we fixed them...Like in yours...It says Air Force....I know you told me before you were in the ARMY....I remember this because most of my friends were in the Army. And not 30 yrs in the business....is more like 50 yrs. = 1970-2020........or if you want to calculate 1968 would = 52 yrs.
Eddie...you taught me how to be meticulous...and a health nut.....and THANK-YOU
Now I have the horrible task to inform some of my close friends.....whom knew you and myself were close friends....and they were also all admirer's of yourself...and a few who's families you did memorials for their funerals.
This is such a shock.
here is a photo ABOVE... of you maybe 6 weeks before you passed.
You will always be part of our family....I recall one conversation when you asked about moving out here....an email conversation
You were always a kind person of mankind....and animal lover (Butchy...your bird)....I used to raise birds also.... and my "Buster" he will be 13 on Christmas....I Remember how you always spoke of your mother in Florida....You were a great human being.

Dear Richard and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. I met Eddie when I was a producer in NY in 1980. We kept in touch all these years.
These photos were taken at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA in January, 2018. He stayed at our home for a week and it was filled with laughter and fun. He was witty, charming, intuitive and full of mischief. He was the ultimate Jewish American Princess - even he said he was. Thank you for the good times Eddie. You have a piece of my heart. Love, Maureen, Brian, Chris and Megan

Eddie was my first real love. He became my love, my advisor, my protector. He was, and remained throughout his life, giving, gentle, funny, spiritual, oh so knowledgeable, on so many levels, and wise beyond this universe. He supported me in my career,...supporting me with all his heart. He was a noble man, a man who did not suffer fools. If he chose you to be his friend you were going to be a friend for life. My heart is broken finding out that he is gone. I can only wait until he chooses to
visit me in my dreams...he will always be in my heart. Linda Scruggs DeGuere

Just learned today of Eddie Bear’s passing, my nickname for such a special man. Still shocked to hear this news and how much I will miss his voice and writings that we shared. Always inspiring me to do my best and keep the fire burning. The most charismatic and inspirational person I’ve had the good fortune to have met. I will turn to the I Ching and always remember what he taught me in our regrettably short encounter on this earthly plane. Sadly Embers

Maybe the most intense person I’ve ever known. That intensity burned bright and made everything we did together an adventure. I met Ed almost a half century ago and it wasn’t long before we became close friends. He was practically a member of my family, which is why I will always consider him my brother. He always said people would be eulogizing him long after his death. He was right!

Peter, it was always an adventure with Eddie. I remember meeting you at our home in Palos Verdes and our thanksgiving all together. He came to stay with us a couple years ago - I know he missed you. I learned early on not to move his coffee setup in my kitchen. I loved him fiercely and I hope he knew that.

Mr. Green as I always call him, and he was like an uncle to me watching me grow up. It hurts to know he has left so quickly. His smile, sense of humor and the beautiful voice will live in my memory forever. We, my family and I deeply miss him. Rest in peace "Eddie"

Beyond sad to learn about Eddies passing leaving this life. He was beyond inspiring and generous with his wealth of knowledge and stories. I was fortunate to have met Eddie during a holiday in NYC and even more fortunate to have stayed in contact despite the distance. He shared his wisdom from the I Ching, the life of Bella and his guidance and support for anything we spoke about through constant email contact. I miss you Eddie. Sending my condolences to his family and friends, in the US and around the world.
With Love, Shanti (from London)

So saddened to learn we have lost Eddie. He was a first class talent and a deeply loyal friend. We first met in the early 90’s when he did voiceovers for my ad agency Burkhardt & Christy. The consummate professional, he made every project special and elevated the tone of everything he touched. We created a screenplay together 15 years ago and up to the end, he was still refining it, coming up with bold new ideas and looking for new avenues of distribution. His energy and drive were powerful indeed. Like many in his orbit, we considered each other “brothers...” He leaves a huge void in all our lives, as he was one man you could always rely on to be there when it counted.
Missing you, and all you stood for-Ron Burkhardt

the poem Ithaca comes to mind when I think of Eddie
his earth angel friend Willie gave me the news this morning
We shared a thirty nine year friendship, when he was with Linda and Farrow was a baby bird.
He knew how to live life, enjoying embracing and knowing what gifts dear friends truly are
Celebrate his life. Do not mourn, I know for sure he would not like that
Prayers to his family, peace love and light to his soul on a journey
to a place where there is no pain, only eternal bliss

Where do I begin to describe the incomparable Eddie Green? I was lucky to be able to call him a friend. I was fortunate to have Eddie coach me on voice-over techniques. Now ... can you say fun with Eddie? We would walk on the beach to discuss everything going on in the world and I do mean everything. He was never at a loss for a theory. Quick with a joke, Eddie's wit would cut through everything. He was truly hilarious; even when he complained. Yes, in a fun way! Like, don't ever touch his coffee. Or move his suitcase. Things must be left as is in Eddie's world. You know he is up there moving things around so they work perfectly for him. I'm sure the Angels are hovering. I will miss him very much. What I will remember the most is his eagerness to help and be kind. My Mom was very ill and one call to Eddie and I had the names of three doctors who were expecting my call. That was Eddie Green. If he could he would and if he couldn't he found someone who could. I love you and will miss you, Eddie. Take it easy on everyone up there Eddie, especially if they misplace your French Roast!

Eddie and I go back to the 1970's here in New York. We met on a voice over audition. He was acting. I was producing. I thought he was so cute and funny, we exchanged numbers and made plans to go to a party together. That was only the beginning.
45+ years later, the indelible impact of this man's contribution to my life mirrors the comments we have all shared. Genuine and powerful. Loving and spiritual. Evocative and sometimes controversial. But never ever dull.
A piece of my heart.
I love you, Banana!
