Obituary of Paul David Shimshi

Paul D. Shimshi of New York City, age 95, passed away on February 12, 2021 at Northwell of Plainview Hospital on Long Island.  Born on the Lower East Side of New York City to David and Rachel Shimshi, immigrants from Salonica, Greece, he was the second of four children.

Paul served in the Army as a supply clerk during World War II after graduating high school.  Following his discharge from the Army, he joined his father and siblings in the family garment manufacturing business, S&S Pajama Manufacturing Company, Inc.  He succeeded his father as President of the company.  While working at S&S Pajama, he earned his B.A. in Business from City College of New York.  After the company closed in 1986, he worked several jobs in the garment industry until his retirement.

A life-long member of the Sephardic Jewish Brotherhood of America, he and his siblings thoroughly enjoyed attending the annual scholarship meetings and researching the history of Sephardic culture.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 63 years, Selma.  He was a loving father to Faye Shimshi and her husband, Todd Wolfson, and Jason Shimshi and his wife Donna; and was grandfather to Rachel and Emily Wolfson, and Rina, Celia and Eliana Shimshi.  He is also survived by his brother Sol (Sonia Elisha), his sister-in-law Phyllis Shimshi, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Paul’s siblings Salvatore Shimshi and Rebecca Hausman, and her husband Julius Hausman predeceased him.
