Obituary of Muriel Rothman

Muriel Rothman’s Obituary August 10, 2021 Muriel (Fischer) Rothman, a longtime resident of Bergen County, passed away among her family members on August 9, 2021, at the age of 95, in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Muriel was born on December 22,1925, in the Bronx, New York to Samuel and Sophie Fischer. Muriel was a graduate of James Monroe High School. 
In 1942, she met Philip Rothman of Astoria, Queens, and they were married on September 1, 1945. They settled in Englewood, New Jersey. Muriel became a homemaker and life partner for Philip as he went from being a machinist, to a home builder, to an industrial builder. They raised three children: Susan, Steven and Arthur in the Englewood house and the Tenafly house both built by Philip. 
Muriel was actively involved in Women's America ORT of Bergen County, as its first Chapter President, recognized as a Woman of Valor; and supported many other charitable causes including the United Jewish Community of Bergen County, recognized as a Lion of Judah; The JCC on the Palisades, and the Israel Symphony. At Temple Sinai of Bergen County, Muriel and her husband Philip endowed the Rabbi’s Chair at Temple Sinai of Bergen County, as well as the library at Neve Yosef in Haifa, Israel. Muriel also served, for several years, as an Englewood Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. 
Muriel had many friends and traveled extensively across the globe with Philip. For 40 years they were "snowbirds" wintering in Florida and summering in Bergen County. Muriel was loved by her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many friends and acquaintances. 
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Susan Bogatin (and her husband Jeffrey Bogatin) of NYC; her son, former U.S. Congressman Steven R. Rothman of Englewood; her son, Arthur C. Rothman, M.D., Ph.D. (and his wife Marybeth Rothman) of Closter; her Grandchildren Rachel Solarsh (and her husband Edmund Solarsh) of NYC; Rebecca Engler (and her husband Ryan Engler) of NYC; John A. Rothman, Esq. of NYC; Karen B. Rothman, Ph.D. of NYC; Benjamin Rothman of Hackensack; Jacob Rothman of Ramsey; and Samuel Rothman of NYC; as well as her Great-Grandchildren Caroline Solarsh and Matthew Solarsh, both of NYC; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Muriel was pre-deceased by her husband Philip, as well as her brother, Lawrence Fischer (and his wife Ellen). 
Muriel will be laid to rest at a private family service, Rabbi Jordan Millstein of Temple Sinai of Bergen County presiding, on August 11, 2021, at the Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. The observances of Shiva will be private.
