Obituary of Martin I Weinberger
Weinberger, Martin, 98, of Fort Lee, on December 2, 2021. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Epstein); devoted father of Alan (Robin) of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Seth (Barbara Goodman) of Evanston, IL; proud grandfather of Noah, Ian, Lee, and Mia; and loyal older brother to Howard (Anita) of Syracuse, NY. Born in Bayonne, NJ, to the late Aaron and Freda (nee Anger) Weinberger. A decorated disabled veteran and the recipient of two Purple Hearts, Marty served his country with distinction as a first lieutenant in the army infantry during World War II. He was wounded during combat in the Huertgen Forest in Germany in advance of the Battle of the Bulge. Following his wartime service, he joined Riedl Associates (formerly Riedl and Freede) as an advertising executive and later worked in-house for Levolor Blinds. He received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in accounting from New York University. He was a member of Bayonne Post 18 of the Jewish War Veterans and a life-long member of Menorah Masonic Lodge in Bayonne (currently Peninsula Masonic Lodge #99, F&AM). He holds the distinction of serving the longest tenure of a Secretary of a Masonic Lodge in New Jersey. He served as a president of Congregation Adas Israel in Passaic, NJ, as well as president of its men’s club, and was a member of the B’nai B’rith West Essex Lodge, Valley of Northern NJ Scottish Rite, and Lodge of the Holy Land in Tel Aviv. He served as contributing editor of the Kindertransport Association newsletter.
