Obituary of Glen Trotiner

Glen Trotiner, age 65, of New York, NY, passed away on June 16, 2022. He was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, friend, filmmaker, and storyteller.

A native of The Bronx, NY, Glen grew up loving the magic of motion pictures. He graduated from the prestigious Directors Guild of America Training Program and went on to work on more than 100 feature films in a distinguished career that spanned five decades.

Glen’s professional journey took him across the country and around the world. He began as an Assistant Director on the classic film The Untouchables, followed by dozens of other high-profile feature film projects, including Biloxi Blues, Awakenings, Miracle on 34th Street, Big Daddy, Phone Booth, Maid in Manhattan, and What Happens in Vegas. He was also a Producer on several notable and award-winning independent movies. For HBO’s Bernard and Doris, he was nominated for the Directors Guild of America Award. Banana Split took home the top prize at the Boston Film Festival. Big Time Adolescence played in Dramatic Competition at The Sundance Film Festival and was picked up for distribution by HULU. Most recently, The Mental State won the Best Feature Film award at the New Jersey International Film Festival.

Mentoring was always of immense importance to Glen. He held a seat on the Directors Guild of America Training Program’s Board of Trustees for over 25 years, the longest of any Board member. He also loved teaching filmmaking workshops at his alma mater, SUNY Albany. It was among Glen’s greatest joys and privileges to help nurture and advise future filmmakers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, June 20 at Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee, NJ. Burial to follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge Township, NJ. The family asks that donations be made to blanketsofhope.com or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
